Pastor Jim's Articles 2/23/2010 Hear... Fear... Do North Hills Family,   My devotional reading this morning brought me to Deuteronomy 31:9-13.  I think it relates well to last Sunday's passage, Philippians 4:8-9, in terms of thinking deeply about God's Word and then living in obedience to it.     The Deuteronomy passage describes the reading of God's law as the Israelites assembled to celebrate the Feast of Booths:  Verses 12 and 13 - "Assemble the people, men, women, and little ones, and the sojourners within your towns, that they may hear and learn to fear the LORD your God, and be careful to do all the words of this law, and that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as you live in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess."   Did you get that?  HEAR, learn to FEAR, and carefully DO all of God's Word.  As we read the Word and hear it read or preached, our gaze should be drawn upward to the author of that Word, resulting in a response of awe and reverence towards God.   This is the kind of worshipful, God-centered life to which we are called and privileged to lead as we head toward our eternal home.  I believe the fear of the Lord, which is essential to our sanctification, comes largely in proportion to the degree we meditate and drink deeply of the soul-satisfying, mind-awakening, heart-inflaming Word of God.  And parents, remember the responsibility and privelege you have of sharing this Word with your children, that they too may taste and see that the Lord is good!
